SCREENING & IMPLEMENTATION
Development Gold Ghana (DGG) screens enterprises to ensure they align with our principles and that best practice approaches to implementation are being followed.
LEVEL ONE CRITERIA
Businesses are ineligible if they:
❌ Engage in illegal or illicit activities
❌ Are linked to conflict zones
❌ Operate in high-biodiversity areas without authorization
Beyond screening, the DGG Performance Standard helps enterprises address key labour, environmental, and governance challenges, ensuring they can manage risks and operate responsibly.
By setting clear requirements and supporting continuous improvement, Development Gold International strengthens the credibility and sustainability of small- and medium-scale gold mining in Ghana.
ELIGIBILITY & COMMITMENT TO IMPROVEMENT
The Development Gold Ghana (DGG) Performance Standard supports small, medium and micro-enterprises (SMMEs) in meeting best-practice ESG standards. However, we cannot engage with enterprises that persistently operate outside acceptable standards, including:
❌ Areas affected by conflict, terrorism, or human rights abuses
❌ Operations that degrade protected ecological areas
❌ Enterprises with no potential for meaningful improvement
That said, we believe that most small-scale enterprises can improve their ESG performance, creating opportunities for positive change. Our entry requirements are as inclusive as possible, and our standards follow a progressive approach.
DGG works with SMMEs that demonstrate a good faith commitment to continual improvement, supporting them through structured performance plans to help them meet ESG best practices over time.
